Introduction to Oracle MAF (Mobile Application Framework)

In June 2014, Oracle unveiled Oracle Mobile Application Framework.

Oracle Mobile Application Framework is a hybrid mobile framework that enables developers to rapidly develop single-source applications and deploy to both Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android platforms.

Features include support for multiple integrated development environments, including Oracle JDeveloper and Eclipse (through Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse); support for multiple development languages, support for Apache Cordova plug-ins; and support for applications developed under Oracle ADF Mobile.

1The Architecture for Oracle Endeca Information Discovery

Let’s start by briefly reviewing the Endeca Information Discovery architecture. The architecture consists of 3 main components:

  • Oracle Endeca Server. This hybrid, search/analytical database provides unprecedented flexibility in combining diverse and changing data as well as extreme performance in analyzing that data. Oracle Endeca Server has the performance characteristics of in-memory architecture however is not memory bound. Oracle Endeca Server is also used extensively as an interactive search engine on many major e-commerce and media websites.
  • Studio is a Discovery application composition environment for the Oracle Endeca Server. Studio provides drag and drop authoring to create highly interactive, visually-rich, enterprise- class information discovery applications.
  • Integration Suite. Oracle Endeca Information Discovery includes a set of tools used for loading and optionally enriching diverse information—including structured and unstructured content—into Oracle Endeca Server.

  • Oracle Endeca Content Management System Connectors- This add-on module allows for integration of content stored in various enterprise content management systems.This is currently supported systems include: EMC Documentum, EMC Documentum eRoom, FileNet P8, FileNet Document & Image Services, Interwoven TeamSite, Lotus Notes/Domino, Microsoft SharePoint, and OpenText LiveLink.
  • Oracle Endeca Text Enrichment. This add-on module includes text analysis capabilities for extraction of people, places, organizations, quotes, and themes as well as core summarization capabilities for automatic creation of abstracts or topical summaries.
  • Oracle Endeca Text Enrichment with Sentiment Analysis. This add-on module includes all of the Text Enrichment capabilities as well as advanced text analysis for extraction of aggregate sentiment related to each extracted concept. Sentiment is extracted with a score indicating the positive and negative nature of a document or an entity in the document. These scores can be used within the faceted search experience by varying ranges of
    positivity and negativity.

Oracle Endeca Information Discovery is in supporting a users’ need to better understand the data. In expanding analysis inputs beyond structured content to unstructured sources, users can better understand the color and qualitative insights which support quantitative results.

Oracle Endeca Information Discovery enables this type of analysis through Oracle Endeca Server, a hybrid search/analytical database that is specifically optimized for discovery, not reporting or online transaction processing.

It was founded in March 1999 by former Oracle executive Marc Benioff. CRM is originally software for managing customer interaction, such as scheduling tasks, emailing, texting, and many more tasks. has its services translated into 16 different languages.

Salesforce CRM provides a complete solution for that includes feature-rich solutions for marketing, sales, services, partner management and community management

Salesforce grew into a cloud software solution and acquired several other companies for Paas and Saas.

  • Platform as a Service Platform as a service (PaaS) is a category of cloud computing services that provides a computing platform and a solution stack as a service. The provider provides the networks, servers, storage, and other services that are required to host the consumer’s application.
  • Software as a Service Software as a service (SaaS) is a software distribution model in which applications are hosted by a vendor or service provider and made available to customers over a network, typically the Internet.

Account and Contact Management :The Account and Contact Management module gives

Opportunity Management

  • As opportunities progress through the Sales Process and each sales stage, a forecast category is automatically associated to the sales stage selected.
  • In addition, based on the selected Sales Stage, a Probability (%) to close is associated with the opportunity.

Report Management

  • Salesforce delivers Standard Report Folders containing Reports for each Record Type (Accounts, Opportunities, Leads, etc.)
  • The Data Security and Data Sharing Rules extend to reporting as well.


Salesforce is also 3-tier, but many of the internals are handled through abstraction.

There are:

  1. Out-of-box interfaces , which include security, dashboards, workflow, and user interfaces. Coding is optional.
  2. VisualForce is an editor for customization of User Interfaces if not out-of-box.
    • Visualforce is a framework that allows developers to build sophisticated, custom user interfaces that can be hosted natively on the platform.
    • The Visualforce framework includes a tag-based markup language, similar to HTML, and a set of server-side “standard controllers” that make basic database operations, such as queries and saves, very simple to perform.
  3. Apex, using the developer console, is for writing code to the Salesforce API, for example a SOAP or batch application for importing custom data.
    • Apex is a strongly typed, object-oriented programming language that allows developers to execute flow and transaction control statements on the platform server in conjunction with calls to the API.
    • Using syntax that looks like Java and acts like database stored procedures, Apex enables developers to add business logic.

“Big Data” is an emerging & continues to be the topic of much discussion and hype.There are some staunch believers of this and there are some who dismiss this as a bubble destined to subside. Companies such as facebook and amazon are already using this. Lets try to understand this whole thing.

But because big data comes from relatively new types of data sources that previously weren’t mined for insight, companies aren’t accustomed to collecting information from these sources, nor are they used to dealing with such large volumes of unstructured data. Therefore, much of the information available to enterprises isn’t captured or stored for long-term analysis, and opportunities for gaining insight are missed.

Oracle AIA – Why it’s hot !

There was lot many news for Oracle AIA this year during OOW ,as foundation pack announcment was made by Charles Phillips in his OOW’s keynote during this gala event.Since then this was a huge interest in the subject.

In April this year the first announcement for the AIA was made which was industry-specific business process templates (BPMN) to provide Industry Reference Models (IRM), Oracle EBS, Siebel and Oracle Applications products between the actual move business processes (BPEL) to provide Process Integration Packs (PIP) from it.

Lets take a quick look what is all about and what’s makes so hot?

What is Oracle AIA Technology?

This is a framework in which the functionality of Oracle’s vast application portfolio – Oracle E-Business, PeopleSoft, Siebel, and JD Edwards – can be recombined and tailored to enterprise needs.

In simple words :A smart integration mechanism , that can support & intergrate the whole bunch of oracle products with EBS or non-EBS products(like SAP) and in this middleware is used to stitching .

The AIA has three components:

  • Industry reference models. These are best practice guides so that the final deployed processes are optimized.
  • Processes Integration Packs which contain out the necessary code to create business process required without risk.
  • Pre built SOA that will run out of the box on Fusion middleware.

Oracle have now published a foundation pack which is series of templates and vanilla processes which can be adopted by a 3rd party to meet their requirements.
